Ranching & Farming at Flitner Ranch
Ranching

Ranching is the main activity at Flitner Ranch.
Cattle: We have approximately 1,300 head of Black Angus cattle; which consists of mama cows and their calves and 400 to 500 yearlings (young cows and steers), and a few bulls. Herd count dependent on the season and grazing available (i.e., how much rain we get during the year).
Horses: Along with the working ranch horses of The Hideout (stock horse breeds such as Quarter horse, Paint, Appaloosa, Palomino etc.), the Flitner Ranch also breeds and raises registered Quarter horses. There are around 250 Flitner-bred QHs with very pristine pedigrees roaming the wide open range.
Horse Infomation
We take pride in good land stewardship and rotating land management, to enhance both livestock and wildlife habitat.
Farming
We farm approximately 2,200 acres of irrigated land and there are approximately 12 miles of
irrigation pipes distributing water to fields out of Trapper Creek, Shell Creek, and White Creek.
Since it's beginning in 1906, Flitner Ranch has held many old water rights; some dating back to the late 1800s.
The farm produces grain and hay for our own livestock and also to sell on the open market.
No need to explain that all this calls for a large fleet of heavy duty, modern farm
equipment and construction equipment.
As a guest of The Hideout you enjoy the upscale hospitality, fresh gourmet food, and luxurious accommodations we offer. Be aware though that none of the ranching and farming experiences you might enjoy is made up or put on merely as a tourist attraction.
The Hideout at Flitner Ranch is the real deal, an authentic working cattle and horse ranch that does farming also. And as a guest of the Flitner family and dedicated staff, you determine each day how much you want to participate in the daily work of the ranch or not.
