The Hideout at Flitner Ranch

The Hideout at Flitner Ranch is located in gorgeous north-central Wyoming. Both the Hideout and Trapper Creek Lodge & Guesthouse are located in Shell Valley, Wyoming -- nestled at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. Whereas, Snowshoe Lodge and the Upper Hideout are located up in the Bighorn National Forest.

Most guests fly into either Billings, MT, or Cody, WY, and get to Shell, Wyoming by car.


Flying, Commercial Flights

Guests coming to The Hideout usually either fly into Cody, Wyoming, or Billings, Montana. We recommend renting a car at the airport so you can take in other area attractions. Below are driving directions to the Ranch. However, we also offer airport transfers from / to both these cities, as follows.

Cody, WY (COD)

  • 70 miles from the Ranch (1-hour drive).
  • Ground transfers: $145.00 per reservation.
  • Both United and Delta offer connecting service through Denver (United) and Salt Lake City (Delta).

Sheridan, WY

Ground transfers: $245.00

Billings, MT (BIL)

  • 140 miles from the Ranch (3-hour drive).
  • Ground transfers: $395.00 per reservation.
  • Delta, United, Continental, and Northwest all offer service into Billings.

Flying, Private Flights

Greybull, WY -- There is a airport in Greybull, WY for charter flights or private aircraft that is only 15 miles from the Ranch. Greybull has a 6,000-foot runway that can accommodate most types of aircraft.

We offer free airport pickup / drop-off for Greybull. Have a group traveling together? Consider chartering your own jet. Check out Edwards Jet Center.

Or another option to consider, both David and Greg Flitner are experienced pilots with both fixed- wing planes and helicopters.

Driving Directions

From the East (from Sheridan, WY; Devil's Tower, WY; Rapid City, SD; Mount Rushmore, SD etc.)

Take Highway 90 West. Take the Exit for Highway 14 West (Dayton, Ranchester, Greybull). Stay on Highway 14, and drive through the Big Horn Mountains, following the directions for Greybull and Shell.

Once you get to Shell, look for the Post Office on your right. Turn Left onto Trapper Creek Road, which is the first street after the post office.

At the top of the small hill (0.25 mile), you will see large stone slab sign for The Hideout on your left, turn left onto that drive. Stay on the road up to the big beige water tower, then turn left, going around the water tower, then down the lane and into The Hideout. Guests are greeted and checked in at the Main Lodge.

From the West (from Cody, WY; East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park through Cody )

Take Highway 14 (going East), toward Greybull & Sheridan.(It's approximately 55 miles from Cody to Greybull). In Greybull, turn left at the traffic light to stay on Highway 14 East (which heads towards Shell & Sheridan). It is about 15 miles from Greybull to Shell.

As you come into tiny town of Shell, turn right onto Trapper Creek Road (the first road after the flashing yellow 35 mi. speed limit sign).

At the top of the small hill (0.25 mile), you will see large stone slab sign for The Hideout on your left, turn left onto that drive. Stay on the road up to the big beige water tower, then turn left, going around the water tower, then down the lane and into The Hideout. Guests are greeted and checked in at the Main Lodge.


From the South (from Denver, CO; Cheyenne, WY, etc.)

Go North on Highway 87/25 all the way to Casper, WY. In Casper, take the Exit for Highway 20 West heading for Shoshoni (approx. 95 miles). In Shoshoni, stay on Highway 20 North (you will need to turn right) heading toward Greybull (approx. 95 miles).

You will drive through Thermopolis, Worland (you will need to turn left in Worland to stay on Highway 20), and Basin. In Greybull, turn right on Highway 14 East at the traffic light heading for Shell & Sheridan (approx. 15 miles).

From the North (Billings, MT, Logan Airport)

As you drive straight out of the airport parking lot, just follow 27th Street all the way to the I-90 Intersection. Turn right and get on I-90 West. Take Exit 434 Laurel / Red Lodge and follow Highway 310 South. After 11.5 miles, in Rockvale, you will need to turn left to stay on 310 South (for approx. 90 miles). In Greybull turn left at the traffic light to stay on Highway 14 East (towards Shell & Sheridan). It is about 15 miles from Greybull to Shell
