Hiking and Mountain Biking
at The Hideout
With over a quarter million acres, the vast expanse of the Flitner Ranch with it's incredible diversity of terrain and spectacular views offers superb mountain biking and hiking opportunities.
With the proximity of canyons like White Creek, Trapper Creek, and Shell Creek; the upcountry of Bighorn National Forest and Cloud Peak Wilderness Area; plus all the networks of trails -- you'll never run out of interesting terrain to explore around here.
And The Hideout does offer mountain bikes for guests.
Depending on your ambition level, physical condition, and map-reading skills, we can guide you to easier or more challenging trails for hiking and mountain biking.
Hiking to Porcupine Falls
One of the most popular, less strenuous hiking destinations is Porcupine Falls. We hike down a steep canyon for about half a mile, and then we come to a secluded lagoon where a tall and extremely narrow falls finds its end: Porcupine Falls.
Although the hike itself is pretty short it is strenuous enough to make you feel like you have accomplished something. It is not unusual to see a moose in the distance on the drive to and from the hike.
Hiking & Biking Cloud Peak
Whereas Shell Valley is at 4,200 feet, you can climb in the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area, with Cloud Peak as highest point. Because of its remoteness, this area is still very little known to mountain bikers, but not for lack of biking opportunities it offers.
Excellent Lodging for Hikers and Bikers
Considered the best lodge in the Big Horn Mountains, our Snowshoe Lodge offers primo accommodations when doing overnight hiking, mountain biking, or fishing trips during our summer and fall seasons.
In fact, Snowshoe Lodge is one of the sponsors of the first Big Horn Mountain Bike Rendezvous organized for August 3-6. We host the trail builders of the International Mountain Bike Association during the Rendezvous.
Check out Snowshoe Lodge for what it has to offer and their rates.
