Special Weekly Events at The Hideout
Wyoming Icons and Wild Horses – MAY 18-24, and OCTOBER 19-25,2008
Ride a section of the historic Jim Bridger Trail, located between Greybull and Cody. This is rugged, high dessert country where we pasture many of our cows. Here, you will be given the opportunity to spot antelope, eagles and wild horses.
Stewart Reed, our Head Wrangler, will guide this ride and will educate guests on the history of the Jim Bridger Trail and of the area in general:
Utilized for only one emigrant season, the Jim Bridger Trail opened in 1864. Created by renowned mountain man and guide: Jim Bridger, the trail also offered a safe route up to the Bozeman Trail for gold prospectors which avoided areas known for dangerous conflicts between the U.S. Army and Northern Plains Indians. Jim Bridger was and continues to be a legend. He is known for his explorations of the Western United States and was among the first non-natives to see the natural wonders Yellowstone has to offer.
Later in the week, learn about the historic use of black powder as local specialist, Jeff McManus demonstrates its power. Evening entertainment will be provided by a firearms curator from the Buffalo Bill Center in Cody. Topic of interest will be “Guns of the West”.
A truly historic and western week that you don’t want to miss!
