Over the years most of you have seen the beautiful picture book on “Cowboy Ethics” or What Wall Street can learn from The Code of The West by Jim Owen. At The Hideout we started using The Code of The West four years ago, immediately after the book was published. All of our cabins have a copy and the book is for sale in our gift shop.
On May 4, 2010, Wyoming’s Governor Freudenthal signed legislation adopting the “10 Codes” as the Wyoming State Code. The Wyoming Business Council is working on a program to certify Wyoming Business meeting high standards under this Code of The West.
The Hideout Lodge & Guests Ranch and the Jona Bank were early adopters of this Code of The West and are referenced as a business example and trendsetter for using The Code of The West Culture. The entire team was present for the initial viewing the movie “The Code of The West – Alive and Well in Wyoming” in Laramie, WY, earlier this year.
At The Hideout we strongly believe in The 3 C’s: Character, Conduct and Competence, with the knowledge that one can train for Competence but not the other two C’s. The 3 C’s and The Code of The West are what we use to hire new staff and the way we base our operations as a team.
The Code of The West
Live Each Day with Courage
Take Pride in Your Work
Always Finish What You Start
Do What Has to Be Done
Be Tough, But Fair
When You Make a Promise, Keep it.
Ride for The Brand
Talk Less and Say More
Remember That Some Things Aren’t For Sale
Know Where To Draw The Line
The Code of The West and what is written in the book Good to Great, by Jim Collins, summarize the culture and principles that we try to live by at The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch. This is just one way that we continue to offer a great Western vacation experience.
