Encompassing over a quarter million acres, the 100-year-old Flitner Ranch is one of the largest working cattle ranches and guest ranches in the American West.  Nestled at the base of the Big Horn Mountains in the tiny hamlet of Shell Wyoming is where you’ll find this pristine paradise. The Hideout is not your typical dude ranch… Third and fourth-generation Flitners’ along with dedicated staff, operate The Hideout guest ranch, the historic Trapper Creek Lodge & Guesthouse, the remote mountainside Snowshoe Lodge and the secluded Upper Hideout. Though we are an adult-oriented, upscale guest ranch where Guests come from around the world to actively participate in the daily cattle drives , families with older children can be accommodated, allowing you to create right of passage and a life long tradition to share among your family's’ generations.   

 

The Hideout can also be defined as a world class horse ranch. The Flitner Ranch produces high-quality Quarter horses from top quality foundation and performance horse bloodlines.  You will ride alongside real working cowboys and cowgirls on well bred, highly trained horses, conditioned to negotiate the demanding terrain.  Rest assured, we take great care in matching horse and rider to ensure your ultimate riding vacation.

Guests may ride as much or as little as they'd like during their vacation with us. The Hideout offers its guests more authentic cattle work and cattle drives than any other dude ranch in the US.  Although Hideout Guests are always accompanied by at least one of our wranglers, this outfit is not a head-to-tail "dude ride." If spectacular scenic trail rides are what you’re after, then our 300,000 acres will provide you the perfect canvas to create memories of this visual masterpiece.  All that riding works up a tremendous appetite so we’ve got you covered there too.  Our culinary trained chefs prepare gourmet meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
