'Authentic Horsemanship' Clinic - October 16 – 22, 2011
Back by demand, we will be running our week long "Authentic Horsemanship" Training Clinic again. This will be run by our full time horse trainers and wranglers, Ramon Castro & Shawn Kelley. During this week, you will have hands on lessons in Colt Starting Techniques, Natural Horsemanship Training, Desensitizing Clinic, Leadership and Horses, Working horses and Cattle, Equine Massage, Team Penning and of course we will go out riding to practice the new learnings. Email: office@thehideout.com or call 1-800-354-8637 for more information. *Limited to 8 participants

The Focus of AH Horsemanship Clinics

While we often customize trainings & clinics based on the specific needs of the participants, we try to include the following:

  • Theory and general information.
  • Demonstrations of Ramon Castro for the group
  • Hands-on work with Ramon and some of the other trainers
  • Hands-on work involving other participants
  • Individual practice of the learning
  • Lots of groundwork & practice of groundwork
  • How to saddle, bridle and handle horses in general
  • Do’s & Don’ts
  • Learn how to be respectful, nice yet firm with your horse
  • Riding techniques
  • The basics of stockman ship and how to work with cattle both on foot and horseback
  • Riding in the arena, trail and participate in working cattle on the ranch

cattle work at ah horsemanship clinicWe also do not forget that people who attend our AH Clinics are riders who come to ride or learn how to ride, so most of the afternoons we go out riding in the country. This offers the opportunity to practice your newly learned skills and for out trainers to continue to help you.

Since we are located in the ranching country of the West, which means we will be able to integrate stockman ship and the basics of working cattle as a part of our clinics.

Ground work & Understanding the horse’s mind as a foundation to Horsemanship

We are surprised how few clinics focus on the above which is according to us the real foundation of any equestrian experience.

Professional groundwork for horse and rider in a non-stress, fun, professional environment with a genuine care for horse & rider to learn to co-operate and get the best out of the relationship, is probably what differentiates AH Horsemanship Clinics from other programs.

By asking yourself the following questions find out why.

  1. How many trainers and clinicians really understand the horses mind in-dept?
  2. How many have trained over 1500 young horses and ridden many more?
  3. How many have connected & linked that knowledge of the horses mind and their skill set in training practicing on so many horses?
  4. How many have also ridden miles and miles day in day out in challenging terrain, around life stock, daily loading and hauling horses in trailers, roping, going to brandings, spend 10 and more hours in the saddle day after day, started horses in the arena to prepare them to be safe horses doing cowboy work?
  5. How many have kept safe and not broken bones doing all the above?
  6. How many are responsible to keep hundreds or rider’s safe, matching horse and rider, working with all levels of riders at a riding guest ranch located on a 300,000 acres real working cattle ranch?
  7. How many have worked in several different horse cultures, yet have an open mind to any horsemanship as long as it is respectful and kind to the horse, aimed at maximizing the learning’s for horse & rider to form a fun and safe partnership?
  8. How many can communicate and are willing to communicate that knowledge?
  9. How many trainers or clinicians take the time to read the rider or participants mind, understanding his / her character, worries, problems, challenges, personality, intention, etc. and link all this to how clock of a particulars horse’s mind ticks ?
  10. How many realize that there is not “one fits all” mindset for the rider, or the horse? How many can read, differentiate their approach and adapt the particular situation customizing the interaction?
  11. How many kept a small ego doing all this, knowing that it is not about them but about you and the horse?
  12. At how many places can you practice all the above in small one-to-one sessions?
  13. How many places are there, where all this is organized in an authentic way being genuinely interested that the participants walk away with what they had in mind when they signed for the clinic, aside much more?
  14. How many are located on one of the nicer guest ranches in The West with a culture of hospitality, a great kitchen, great lodging and making sure this is aside learning also a great and fun experience hiding out from the world indulging in horse-stuff?
  15. At how many can you do all the above in 4 different languages support by a group of people who have experience working with different cultures?
